GOLDRING G65 TONE ARM REWIRE & SERVICE
The arm is of good design and will work well with some repairs

The cartridge mounting holes are stripped of there threads and the mount
has been glued in…
this should be quick release type and you could have a few cartridges on
mounts ready to go in…
maybe when new a few mounts was supplied

Also the screw shown here is not correct type and does not hold head
tight…
again some glue has previously been used
also there is tiny damage to the head shell on this side
Also 3 of the gold tags look reusable…I have the same type in stock

The horizontal bearings are a little loose (one of the ball bearings was
missing)…
The vertical have already been adjusted by some one (possibly to tight)
The nut and shaft for the arm to attach to a turntable is suited a thin
wood or metal plate maybe 10-15 mm max thickness…
No height adjustment on the arm
The lower cable exit is fine but this design means that soft cable needs
to be used for about 4 –6 inches out of the arm exit…
Because the brass bit highlighted turns with the arm...
The old cable is really bad and sounds terrible…it needs replaced...
There would have been soldered connections inside the original
turntable…. like an old music centre type arrangement
Below the arm is rewired and serviced

I reused the customer’s gold tags and used double heat shrink on tags to
give extra durability and used our high durability internal cable

Our test bed with floppy drive motor conversion and linn lp12 inner
platter….
We did a before and after sound check using a cheap £7.99 cartridge.

Check the “before
work” and “after
work” recordings out…
I must point out the dramatic improvement is due to the original cables
resistance being very high..
and the capacitance also a very big drain on the arms output
